First off, your suppose to flip the inequality symbol when you are multiplying or dividing by a negative number. The reason you do this refers to the number line. When you flip the sign your basically solving for the same equation, but you need an answer on the positive and negative side on the number line. If you do not switch it you will be solving for two completely different equations, and you will get the wrong answer. That is why I believe you flip the inequality symbol while multiplying or dividing by a negative number.
